Us Open 2010, día 1, jornada vespertina

El Billie Jean King Center abrió sus puertas al incio del último Grand Slam de la temporada, el Us Open.
Este torneo, ganado en 1977 por Guillermo Vilas y en 2009 por Juan Martín Del Potro, encuentra a los tenistas en un parejo mundo de posibilidades. Rafa Nadal intentará ganar su primer abierto de los Estados Unidos, mientras que Federer su sexto. En tanto Djokovic, que fue finalista en 2007 y Murray que aun no consiguió ganar ningún grande, batallarán junto a un sin número de jugadores por la gloria.

Cuando hice mención a lo parejo que está el deporte, hubo dos partidos que me avalaron el comentario. ¿Quién podía imaginar que Soderling y Haider Maurer se irían a cinco sets? El sueco tuvo que correr mucho para derrotar al austríaco número 214 del mundo por 7-5/6-3/6-7/5-7/6-4 en casi 4 horas de juego. Sobre el otro encuentro al que hacía referencia, Monfils - Kendrick, me, y les pregunto lo mismo. Nadie imaginaba al francés sufrir tanto para llegar a segunda ronda.Ganó 3-6/6-3/6-4/6-7/6-4.

¿Qué pasa con los argentinos?
Lamentablemente Horacio Zeballos no pudo ante Igor Andreev. Perdió ante el ruso número 121, que está pasando por el peor momento de su carrera. Fue 3-6/6-4/6-7/3-6. Resulta extraño el pasar actual de Zeballos que ganó 2 de los último 10 partidos que jugó. Otro que anda de mal en peor es el correntino Leonardo Mayer. Perdió ante el francés Guillerme Ruffin por 2-6/7-6/7-6/6-1 y sumó su séptima derrota consecutiva en primeras rondas...estadísticas escalofriantes y preocupantes para el futuro próximo de los argentinos. Llama mucho la atención este pronunciado bajón que parece no tener final. Los números asustan. A simple vista, al ver jugar a estos dos tenistas, muestran una marcada muestra de desconfianza y dudas. No cierran puntos, no le pegan, no se sueltan...qué les estará pasando...lo que sea, que pase, que el 17 empieza la Davis.

Gisela, la dulce alegría de la jornada.
La tigrense derrotó por 6-1 y 6-3 a la alemana Kerber y se metió en segunda ronda, en donde jugará frente a Victoria Azarenka. Ahora, buscará superar su mejor marca que precisamente obtuvo el año pasado, edición en la que alcanzó la cuarta ronda.

Alejandro Falla fue sorprendido por Taylor Dent. El local lo superó por 6-4/7-5/6-1 y accedió a segunda fase en donde enfrentará al sueco Robin Soderling. Inesperada caída del colombiano, que en este 2010, su mejor resultado en Grand Slams fue en Australia, cita en la que llegó a tercera ronda, mejor ubicación de su carrera.

There where two matches that endorse me when I mentioned the parity of the players. Who could imagine That Soderling and Haider Maurer would play 5 sets? The Swedish guy had to run much to defeat the number 214 of the world by 7-5/6-3/6-7/5-7/6-4 in almost 4 hours. The other match is the one in which Monfils defeated Kendrick. The French guy needed also 5 sets to get into second round. The result was 3-6/6-3/6-4/6-7/6-4

What’s going on with the Argentineans?

Unfortunately Horacio Zeballos lost to Igor Andreev. The russian is in the worst moment of his career and is ranked number 121. It was 3-6/6-4/6-7/3-6. It seems strange the current situation of Zeballos, who won 2 of the last 10 matches he palyed. Anther one that is not doing good is Leonardo Mayer. He lost against the French Ruffin by 2-6/7-6/7-6/6-1. He has seven defeats in a row.  This are not good stats for the Argentineans. At simple sight while watching this players you can see their doubts and lack of trust in themselves. They don’t close the point, they don’t hit,  they don’t loose the arm…What’s happening to them? Don’t really now, but I they regain there level for the Davis Cup.

Gisela, the sweetest thing of the day..

Dulko defeated the German Kerber for 6-1 and 6-3. She advanced to second round where she will be playing against Victoria Azarenka. 

Alejandro Falla was surprised by Taylor Dent. The American won by 6-4/7-5/6-1 and advanced to second round where he will be playing against Soderling.
